1982. Wilfredo Stephenson - An Ensemble Of Salsa Percussion

Wilfredo Stephenson Y Su Orquesta
An Ensemble Of Salsa Percussion
(Amigo Records AMLP-842) °1982°

"A good friend, a humorous soul, and a very talented
singer-musician, Wilfredo 'Willy? Stephenson has
come a long way since our first encounter. It was in
the beginning of the 70's that i first had the pleasure
of listening to and jamming with the man himself - the
place was Café Ricardo, situaded in the Old Town in
Stockholm, Sweden. The club was not much bigger
than the average living-room, and it starded to cook
when Willy took the stage. Sweat literally ran down
the walls. In Scandinavia, where the record-buying
public is brainwashed by the somewhat noise-oriented
rock bands, it's a welcome surprise to find an oasis of
honest concentrated Afro-Latin rock music.
Willy went on from 12 strings to 4 strings, forming and
leading what was to become the best Latin group in
Scandinavia, 'Hot Salsa'.
A multi-talented and dedicated musician of this calibre
is hard to find in today's fast-moving commercial rock
business. Willy not only plays the bass, congas, bongos
and diverse percussion, sings, and composed most of the
titles on this record, but he also produced it, and is forever
trying to furter the cause of Afro-Latin music worldwide.
This album is a must for people who love good music.
Played with an intensity that only Willy could conjure up,
this is roots music at its best. Listen to the first track and
you'll se what i mean. It's just being in the motherland
Africa. Fasten your seat-belts, relax, and take off to exotic
lands in the comfort of your own home.
Willy will take you away."
